Hits FM 91.2 has played a big role in promoting the Nepali music recording industry through its radio station and the annual premier musical event, Hits FM Music Awards. The award ceremony has been able to provide an authentic platform for future talents and simultaneously created a standard for quality in recording and appreciating the popularity of the artists. This year the Hits FM Music Awards has been sponsored by Close Up, co-sponsored by Coca Cola, in association with Hero Honda Karizma and Philips.

The 7th Close Up Hits FM Music Awards was held on Wednesday, February 18, 2003 at the Birendra International Convention Centre. Nepal Television and Hits FM 91.2 had broadcasted the award ceremony live.

Singles/Albums that were registered in the year 2059 in Hits FM 91.2 were eligible for nominations. The process of voting is 50% through public vote and 50% through an independent judge panel. This year there hasn’t been any additions in the categories and so the award ceremony took place with the existing 15 categories (including the Lifetime Achievement Award). The forms were distributed in 23 Hicola Colour Labs in 15 districts. There was an online voting poll in www.hitsfm.com.np and www.cybernepal.com.np. 30,000 nominations forms were distributed out of which 20,892 nomination forms were collected and 5,385 forms were collected online.
