THE ROLLING
STONES
The
Rolling Stones have signed an exclusive recording agreement
to release their next album through the Universal Music
Group. The one-album deal, for the soundtrack CD to Martin
Scorsese's film Shine A Light, is due to be released in
April. However, British record label EMI - to which the
band have been signed in the past - denied that the group
had severed or was about to sever its links with the record
label and shift to Universal. The announcement marks a fresh
blow for EMI. The Shine A Light movie, which is set for
release in April, was filmed at The Rolling Stones' acclaimed
performance at New York's Beacon Theatre in autumn 2006.

Despite
a 16-year relationship with EMI, the Rolling Stones signed a
one-album deal with Universal to release Shine a Light, the
soundtrack to the Martin Scorsese concert film due in April.
With the band's EMI contract set to expire this year, the move
may be a precursor for Mick & Co. to join Paul McCartney
and Radiohead in exodus from the once powerhouse music company.
Should the Stones change companies, the World's Greatest Rock
Band would take with them a catalog of 14 studio albums dating
back to 1971's Sticky Fingers.
